TEA-RIFFIC

Those of you who know me, know that I collect tea bags. In fact, when living in Germany, I had everyone I knew collecting tea bags for me. My wearable art "Tea & Sympathy" is what they all went towards, even if in the process my land lady nearly kicked me out for drying tea bags in the attic.

Well, scientists and fashion designers in the UK have developed a fabric made from, you guessed it, Tea!

The fibre, which is similar to see-through papyrus, is actually grown in large vats of tea, sugar and other nutrients. A bacteria that is added to the solution creates filaments which float to the top in a matted fabric.

The fabric, once treated and manipulated, is similar to a really thin and light-weight leather, and has already been used to make clothes, shoes and accessories.

I always knew tea was a magical substance...
